My recruiter called with six new openings for Winston Salem in various positions. NC has been a hot bed of travelers lately. According to a story appearing in the Miami Herald, Hospitals are now sending their own recruiters to South Florida looking for Nurses.
My last six travel assignments have been in North Carolina. I think they are some of the best hospitals I have worked in. According to the Herald's article, it is the housing cost that lures Nurses from other states."In the Greensboro area, according to an economic development website, the median house price for 2006 was listed as $144,000. In South Florida, the median price is now $274,600 in Miami-Dade, $259,000 in Broward.
Last spring, Holy Cross vice president Luisa Gutman told The Miami Herald, ``We saw a lot of nurses resigning, moving away from this area -- to North Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas. It's mainly the cost of housing.'' John Dorrchner of the Miami Herald.
That may be so, but I wouldn't discount the fact that the NC hospitals for the most part (and only from my humble prospective) are nicer to work at, with better Nurse patient ratio's. That could also have a little to do with it. I am in an area of Florida not affected by outrageous housing costs. I still prefer most NC Hospitals to Florida's.
